Here is the report of our team SUNN Enduro rider Martin ASTLEY frpom the inside :
"The weekend of 21st/22nd August was the 3rd round of the Maxiavalanche at Are in Sweden. It was my first visit to Sweden and boy I was impressed ! Are is pretty far North, in fact it is on a similar latitude to Iceland, this means in the summer months it’s light pretty much all night. Even in late August it wasn’t getting dark until 10PM !!
3 Sunn riders made it out for the event, myself, Simon Andre and downhiller and newly crowned European DH champ Robin Wallner, we had high hopes of getting all 3 of us in the top ten. It all started pretty well with a first place for Robin, 2nd for Simon and 4th for me in Qualifying, all of us on the front row for Saturdays racing……
The weather on Saturday was reasonable but it was very misty at the start as we were high enough to be in the clouds. This made it very difficult on the start line as we were essentially charging in to oblivion ! Racing was pretty hard and fast and the standard was high, the course was pretty full on and in many places favoured those on DH bikes. Robin capitalised on this and ended up bagging himself an awesome 2nd place, Simon Andre did amazingly well as he was riding a 140mm travel Kern on a very rough track, he eventually finished 3rd. Two Sunn riders on the podium! Personally, I didn’t fair quite so well, poor starts in both my heats meant I was fighting to pass all the way down. I eventually finished 11th just outside the top ten, not too bad.
All in it was an incredible weekend, Simon and I are both keen to return to Sweden and explore more of the vast array of riding out there, another destination to add to the list.
Thanks to Cathy and all those involved for putting on such a great race and to Anna Walters and Anders Gunnarsson for the Photos."
